Eligibility & Duration
M.Tech Eligibility for Working Professionals
There is no single eligibility rule for every M.Tech for working professionals. Most departments require a BE or B.Tech in a relevant branch, while a few may accept an equivalent qualification. Minimum marks or CGPA, accepted disciplines, work-experience length and the selection process are set by each institution.
Common documents and conditions
- Relevant bachelor’s degree and semester-wise marksheets
- Proof of employment and qualifying work experience
- Employer No Objection Certificate or sponsorship letter, where required
- GATE score, institute test or interview, depending on the admission notice
Working-professional programmes may restrict admission by department, location, employer type or available seats. For example, IIT Delhi’s part-time M.Tech information is department-specific, while DIAT publishes separate 2026–27 admission bulletins for its working-professional M.Tech category. Use the exact bulletin for your preferred subject rather than assuming one institute’s conditions apply everywhere.
How long does a part-time M.Tech take?
Many M.Tech programmes for working professionals take around two to three years. The duration depends on course credits, semester load and institute rules. IIT Delhi’s Computer Science department describes a six-semester part-time route, while JNTUH’s 2026–27 notice lists part-time M.Tech programmes with a three-year duration.
Before applying, compare class timings, attendance, laboratory sessions, examinations and project milestones with your work schedule. Ask whether the institution requires employer permission or time away from work for campus activities. Confirm the current duration and qualifying experience in the latest IIT Delhi programme information or the JNTUH admission notice.
Eligibility checklist
- Match your undergraduate branch to the programme’s accepted disciplines.
- Check the minimum marks or CGPA and how the institute calculates it.
- Count only the work experience accepted by that specific admission notice.
- Confirm whether GATE, an entrance test, interview or employer NOC is required.
- Check that the programme and study mode are approved for the intake year.
Meeting the minimum M.Tech eligibility criteria allows an application to be considered; it does not guarantee admission. Always use the institution’s latest prospectus for final decisions.
